Carguero → Strada: scaling design for a freight platform moving ~5,000 truck trips a day
From a 45-person startup to a 450+ person supply-chain company: I grew from Product Designer to Design Lead at Carguero, designed across 6+ product squads, built the Kilometro Zero design system and carried the product through the merger with TIP Bank that created Strada.

01 — Context
Connecting agribusiness shippers with thousands of truck drivers
Carguero connects large agribusiness shippers — ADM, Cargill, Amaggi, LDC — with carriers and truck drivers. As volume grew, the product had to scale across registration, integrations, batches, monitoring, the driver app, the classifier and offers, each owned by its own squad.
02 — Problem
Fragmentation: many squads, one legacy interface, no shared language
Squads were shipping on a legacy interface with no common patterns. Onboarding enterprise shippers was slow, operations teams lacked real-time visibility of trips, and after the merger with TIP Bank the whole product had to move to the new Strada brand without disrupting customers.
03 — Users
Shippers, operations, drivers — and the squads building for them
Enterprise agribusiness shippers onboarding onto the platform; operations teams following trips in real time; carriers and truck drivers using the driver app; and, inside the company, the product squads and designers who needed a shared way to build.
04 — Constraints
Scaling while the product was live
A legacy interface still in production. Each product area owned by its own squad. Integrations with third-party terminal systems. A company growing from 45 to 450+ people. And a merger rebrand that couldn’t disrupt customers.
05 — My role
From embedded designer to Design Lead across 6+ squads
I started embedded in squads and grew into Design Lead, designing across them: discovery with operations teams and drivers, end-to-end flows and prototypes, usability testing, the Kilometro Zero design system, Figma organisation and documentation, and mentoring and leading up to six designers.

06 — Key initiatives
Problem → intervention → result

Enterprise onboarding
Problem — onboarding enterprise shippers was slow.
Intervention — a new registration flow for enterprise members.
Result — brought Cargill onto the platform as a member and streamlined enterprise onboarding.

Real-time tracking
Problem — operations teams lacked real-time visibility of trips.
Intervention — monitoring for ~5,000 daily journeys.
Result — real-time visibility for operations, helping optimise routes.

Kilometro Zero design system
Problem — squads shipped on a legacy interface with no common patterns.
Intervention — ~350 components built on Ant Design, documented and organised in Figma.
Result — a shared foundation across 500+ screens, so squads could ship consistent UI.

Design Ops & governance
Problem — more squads and designers meant more files, components and events to keep consistent.
Intervention — Figma organisation, onboarding and mentoring of new designers, and documentation for components and 120+ Firebase analytics events.
Result — one documented source for components and analytics events across squads.

Brand transition
Problem — after the TIP Bank merger, the product had to move to the Strada brand without disrupting customers.
Intervention — aligned the visual identity and adapted the digital products.
Result — the rebrand started from the design system instead of from scratch.

Unloading schedule
Problem — cargo unloading had to be coordinated with third-party terminals.
Intervention — scheduling for cargo operations, integrated with terminal systems.
Result — scheduling and terminal systems connected in one flow to improve coordination.
07 — Impact
Design that scaled with the company
Kilometro Zero gave every squad a shared foundation — ~350 components across 500+ screens — so teams could ship consistent UI while the company grew from 45 to 450+ people, and the Strada rebrand had a single place to start from. Alongside it, I documented 120+ Firebase analytics events and organised Figma so new designers could be onboarded onto the same system.
08 — Learnings
Systems let quality scale
In operational B2B products, a design system and solid Design Ops are what let design quality grow with the company. Screens get redesigned; shared foundations, documentation and governance are what keep many squads moving in the same direction.
